How to host a successful business dinner

From choosing a format to welcoming guests on the night: the steps that turn a business dinner into an evening where people genuinely meet.

A good business dinner isn't decided by the menu. It comes down to three things: who sits at the table, how guests are seated, and what happens before and after the evening. Here is a simple method, step by step.

1. Pick a format and stick to it

A regular dinner on the same rhythm — say, one Tuesday a month — becomes a habit in members' calendars. Decide early on the number of seats, the share kept for members and for guests, and the price of a seat for a non-member.

In Cénacle, a recurring dinner is created once as an event series: the next dates appear on their own, and a skipped date stays skipped.

2. Open registrations with the right tickets

Members and guests don't register the same way: a member uses a dinner from their membership, a guest pays for a seat. Offer both tickets on the same page, and keep approval with the team when you want to choose your guests.

When the room is full, a waiting list keeps interested people: the first person waiting is told first as soon as a seat frees up.

3. Know your guests before seating them

Before the dinner, ask everyone to introduce themselves in a few lines: what they do, what they're looking for, what they can bring. Those answers feed everything else — the seating plan, introductions at the table, follow-up connections.

That's the job of the pre-dinner questionnaire, which attendees fill in from their member area.

4. Take care of the seating plan

Seating decides the conversations. Mix profiles, avoid the same neighbours dinner after dinner, and keep control over fixed seats. The assisted seating plan balances tables from the guest list and remembers who has already sat together.

5. A welcome without a queue

On the night, each guest shows their ticket, scanned at the door. Arrivals are checked in as they come, and closing check-in marks the no-shows, with no paper list to re-type: that's ticket check-in.

6. Extend the evening

The next day, ask for short feedback and note the introductions to make. Satisfaction surveys give a score you can compare from one dinner to the next; introductions turn table conversations into meetings.
